00:00Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard has called on Filipinos to vote for leaders who will firmly stand for the country's rights in the West Philippine Sea.
00:08Shane Acobo from the Philippine Information Agency, Region 10, tells us more.
00:15Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore J. Tariela, highlighted the significance of the May 2025 elections in supporting the country's efforts in the West Philippine Sea.
00:28If we really care for our fight in the West Philippine Sea, we have to make sure that our elected officials, whether in Senate, in Congress, or also in the local government units,
00:40are those public officials who will be supporting the national government, particularly President Bombo Marcos, in standing firm for our fight in the West Philippine Sea.
00:50But Tariela warned that electing pro-China candidates to the Senate or Congress could hinder the armed forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard
00:59in securing the necessary resources to defend the country's claims.
01:05The PCG spokesperson also pointed out the challenge of misinformation and fake news in defending the West Philippine Sea.
01:13He urged Filipinos who support the country's position to act when encountering such content by reporting fake news to Metap for removal
01:23or leave a comment to clarify the correct information.
01:28Tariela visited Finma Cagayan de Oro College as part of the government's initiative to raise awareness of WPS issues among the youth.
01:37With the spread of misinformation about the West Philippine Sea, Tariela said the National Task Force is working with the Philippine Information Agency
01:46and the National Youth Commission to ensure accurate and factual information reaches the youth.
01:53These agencies, along with local media, play a vital role in spreading the right message across the country.
02:00From the Philippine Information Agency, Region 10, Shay Nakobo for Balitang Pambansa.
