00:00Well, the Newquay Strategic Route is a big deal for Newquay as a whole, but especially for Nansleddon.
00:08It's about strengthening the connections to town for Nansleddon itself,
00:13and it means for the first time, rather than people passing around Nansleddon,
00:16they'll be directly travelling through the community itself.
00:20And it's so much more than a road building project.
00:22I mean, we've engineered the balancing ponds here, you see, for dealing with flood risk
00:27and creating additional wildlife and amenity value for the community,
00:32as well as two beautiful bridges over the railway line and over the Chapel Stream here as well.
00:37But also, it's going to put the wind in our sails and gives us, the Duchy of Cornwall, the confidence to build Market Street,
00:43which is the first new high street in Cornwall in 700 years.
00:48Opening this new road will, firstly, ease congestion,
00:52because as we know, even in the winter times, going into Newquay is incredibly busy anyway,
00:58and especially around the schools and things.
01:00But I think not only that, it's a really beautiful place to drive down through.
01:05I think it just joins everyone together.
01:07And you can see the road and the bit I'm standing on, you've got cycleways, footways,
01:12and you just join east to west and north to south.
01:16So that would be the big difference.
01:17So I think personally for me, having grown up in Newquay,
01:20I think I can connect with the people who live here.
01:24How much, when this opens, this is the sort of final piece in the jigsaw
01:28of the connectivity between Hendra and Nance Lairdon and Trevenston Road,
01:32will really open up the development for the future.
01:37This project's kind of been built what I would call the right way.
01:40So they could put it in schools, nurseries, little shops and businesses.
01:45And eventually there'll be a super surgery and a garden centre.
01:49So as they build the houses, there's places for people to go and places for people to work as well.
01:54So with this being one of the sort of major infrastructure projects in Newquay,
02:01probably for the last sort of couple of decades,
02:04it's going to really improve people's lives, particularly with travelling.
02:07It's going to alleviate some of the traffic in the sort of surrounding areas,
02:11particularly in Quintrell Downs.
02:13We're going to be closing Tren Creek, the level crossing.
02:17So it'll really alleviate the traffic congestion, improve people's journey times,
02:22the access to all the walking that you do and the cycling in and around the towns
02:26and the connectivity with Newquay.
02:28Plus we've got the bus links.
02:30So yeah, I think it's going to be a real improvement for the people who live here.
02:34Well, that's a tricky one. Let's go for transformational.
02:40And the reason why? I think we just covered it.
02:43It'll just join everything together in Newquay and allow people to freely float between the two communities.
02:48The legacy that, so legacy would be the word, just because of what we've created.
02:53It'll be a lasting legacy that we leave at Nansleddon.
02:55How nice the development looks and the town that's been created.
02:59I think this will be something that people will look back on years to come and go,
03:03look, you know, we did build something really, really nice here.
03:05I think we can all be really, really proud of what we've achieved here.
