Care homes across the UK have been holding events to mark the VE 80 anniversary. Many residents have childhood memories of street parties held to celebrate the end of the war in Europe. Here Sheila Mann and Barbara Chester of Syne Hills in Skegness share their memories.

00:00We lived in Yarmouth when it was V-Day and it was just mum and myself at home because my dad was in the Air Force and my brother in the Navy and they were away.
00:12So we went up to the marketplace at 12 o'clock at night and it was absolutely packed and the music was blaring out and we were all going round holding on to it doing,
00:25ah yai conga, ah yai conga and it was absolutely lovely.
00:30And when we'd done that, which was really what I really liked was we went to the chip stall and I had a bag of chips and I thought it'd be absolutely barbarous.
00:41What I can say is when the war was over, the troops that were stationed at the Buckins, they all had tremendous parties.
00:53Before they went home and there were really big parties and Mrs. Butting was there himself and his daughter.
