00:00OK, lads, if a core break, stop punching, take a step back.
00:08Don't deliberately throw punches on the back of the head,
00:10but take yourselves at all times, touch gloves. Good luck, fellas.
00:14Another excellent referee in Steve Gray taking charge of this one.
00:19And it's another excellent match-up on this fabulous night.
00:22We move down into the fiery featherweight division.
00:28Telford's Liam Davies seeking out revenge.
00:32A return to winning ways against a man who knows only how to win.
00:38The undefeated, unblemished, Kurt Walker.
00:41He's won all 12, but now he's into deeper waters.
00:45As our sport fits together, experience, skills, dedication.
00:51And Darren levels here, and that's the big question for Kurt Walker.
00:56He was a standout amateur, as you say.
00:59He's a very good boxer, well scored. He's got quick hands, quick feet.
01:03Every now and again, he'll set about his opponents and let a good barrage of shots go.
01:09But technically sound, but I'll tell you what, Liam Davies, he's got the bit between his teeth.
01:14He's been fired up. You mentioned the shots there at the weigh-in.
01:18Trying to intimidate Walker. It's a good fight stylistically, two very good fights.
01:25He's getting centering straight away here, Liam Davies.
01:30Back to business, Barry and quickly, only six months on.
01:34Yeah, and that shows an ambition not to be left behind.
01:37You know, it wasn't a landslide to defeat against Massoud.
01:41He's a really good kid, but he'd want to get back up.
01:43And he's up in weight, of course, now.
01:45So you feel like he's revigored.
01:47But he hasn't picked a great opponent for him, I don't think.
01:49A guy who can very clever, can move, won't get greedy with his success,
01:53will pick his shots well and then get back into defensive mode.
01:55So that's going to be hard for Davies to break down.
01:57So I think patience is important for Davies here.
02:00He has to chip away, but not get over-eager.
02:03Because if he makes a mistake, Walker will rally good combinations,
02:06spin him on a six-pence and have a good time in there tonight.
02:10He's doing the right thing, Davies.
02:12He's being busy in Kurt Walker last time out against Liam Woodstock.
02:17Look, he won and he boxed well, but it was ten rounds.
02:21And in the final few rounds, Adam, he started to fade ever so slightly.
02:24The pace of this contest is very important for Liam Davies.
02:28That was a good win for Walker.
02:30And he's got a huge amount to do over 12 rounds here against a seasoned operator.
02:38We'll just be hoping that mentally he's undone by the defeat to Massoud.
02:46But it was a really good performance from Massoud,
02:49who we see back in the ring in a few weeks' time
02:52in a fascinating fight with Peter McGrail.
02:56And he mentioned patience, and that's exactly what he didn't do.
02:59Again, things like that, you know, Walker will have a field day with that.
03:02So the jab from Davies is solid.
03:04Just step behind that. Don't get too greedy.
03:07Double it up and then just take a little step.
03:09Steal the space, steal the space.
03:11Uppercut there from Davies.
03:13It was one shot about a minute ago that just seemed to have a slight effect on Kurt Walker.
03:20He's a puncher.
03:22Davies, 50% knockout ratio.
03:26But the move up here to Featherweight, will that suit him better?
03:31A decent start from Davies.
03:35Beautiful.
03:36Legs.
03:37Right there.
03:38Breathe.
03:39Lovely.
03:40The jab.
03:41Doesn't like the jab.
03:42Keep piercing in his face.
03:43We'll drop one and up, yeah?
03:44Little faints all the time with the feet.
03:45He can't cope with the faints.
03:46You know what I mean?
03:47Can't get too big.
03:48No need.
03:49That one round the side he's open for.
03:50You know what I mean?
03:51And the other couple's got to be timed.
03:53And only...
03:54You know what I mean?
03:55The dulcet tones of Errol Johnson.
03:56There's few boxing men that know more in the midlands of that guy.
04:15Guy knows his boxing.
04:16He looks after his fighters, he really does so much passion.
04:19so much passion and the name there we just see Tristan Davis the dad of Liam Davis beat me
04:24I can't believe I'm admitting this beat me in the APA's 7500 when I was 18 years old
04:29I love him
04:30extraordinary sport isn't it now people pop up and crop up they can IBF intercontinental
04:40featherweight title on the line here it's the return of the 29 year old from Telford
04:46Liam Dangerous Davis brought a few fans as always in with Kurt Walker the Olympian from Tokyo
04:56he's got the rings tattooed on him he's a proud man really good amateur only two knockouts in the
05:05professional business so he's got to utilize those skills that have been honed for many many years
05:12he's got good feet good movement and he's got a pickpocket his way through these early difficult
05:19rounds and the pace that Davis sets yeah he's using the jab really well as well Davis good variation with
05:25that lead hand stabbing it into the body looking for the right hand over the top he's waiting a little
05:32bit too much you see that with top amateurs sometimes just waiting a little bit too long
05:38for the perfect shot he's got to be busy himself Walker it's a good job from Davis and it is but I
05:43can't believe how easy walk it is to hit with it I've got to be honest I thought you'd be slipping the
05:47jab a little bit more spinning on that front foot he sort of just sort of thinks he can half block it
05:51good rhythm from Davis body shots and the speed is carried up from eight stone ten no doubt about
06:00that for Liam Davis maybe he did struggle with that weight and that was a slight problem holding down
06:08a super bantam former British European champion and this might be the making of it the move up
06:20just seems a little bit of a cautious here Walker maybe he wasn't sure about the power of Davis so
06:26he just don't make any mistakes but still you've got to try and have a little bit of self-belief and
06:30let your punches go there's something about Davis here at featherweight Darren that I'm liking
06:35it looks beautiful but it's a nice wide hook though from Walker but it's very confident I think in his head
06:42believes his leagues above and he's showing it in there he's showing no respect whatsoever
06:47to Walker
06:49come from the nose of Kurt Walker and has the Irishman got enough firepower to bend Davis off it is
06:57consistent and it's pressure and he looks ever so relaxed in there and it's early on here
07:05Liam Davis really good work for the man from shop show
07:09it really is and when Walker throws his shots he's too much on his toes there's just no power in the
07:15shots you need to bend the knees shake yourself then throw the shots
07:19there's the body shot there Walker he's got speed and that left up you can see the quality the pedigree's got
07:30but he's got to do it in the pro ranks and this is the hardest test yet
07:35oh good
07:42I feel
07:45good
07:47listen to me yeah
07:48those little touches on the way in you're gonna find your jab do you understand then you put a little
07:54bite on it push it back with a little double jab right stick a little bit on it do you understand
07:57You know what he's been moving too much, okay?
08:0312 round fight, baby.
08:05At your pace, you know what he's doing?
08:08How's he in the corner there?
08:1112 round fight.
08:15It's the pace.
08:23Tell you what, I'm not sure about the look in his eyes there.
08:26It just feels to me as though maybe some of the confidence has drained out of him after those first two rounds.
08:33He looked a little anxious to me there, nervous.
08:36He's just not got going yet, has he?
08:38Liam Davis, don't get me wrong, he started really, really well.
08:42Two good rounds for Davis, the variation worked the body really well, the jab, but as Barry says, just far too easy to hit with that lead hand.
08:50It's been too easy with the jab, and I think that's a bit of a shock, but the jab is not the fastest from Davis.
08:57It's still a solid shot, he's stepped from higher, but now you're giving him the impetus to the punch coming forward here, Davis.
09:02It's going to be harder for Walker, so he's got to take a bit of a leap of faith, which is always a worry against a guy who can punch as hard as Liam Davis.
09:08Head and body shots, and I guess has to take the odd one, but I don't think he's worried about that, Liam Davis, that smile again through the gum shield.
09:18As if to say, I'm the professor, I'm the boss here.
09:22He's the slightly younger man, but it's all Davis.
09:25There's a gap there though for Walker, when he bends his knees, there's a right hand to the body, we throw right down the middle.
09:31Just see Davis' elbows a little bit wide, and now maybe that's the start of an attack for him, he just dips the legs, right hand, come over the left, stick over the top.
09:38But it's Davis who's getting the body shots home, Barry, he's sinking them in, and they are all excellent, executed well from the fists of the Delford man.
09:50And he's just too busy and precise at the minute.
09:54Look at the difference there with power shots landing, 24-9 in favour of Davis, and yeah, lots of those have been to the body.
10:01Really does, he throws them so well, he'll tap upstairs with the uppercuts and drop heavy lefts to the body.
10:08Coming to rights from Walker.
10:10The shingles are again, which is not enough, that's better.
10:18Right.
10:20There is a different look to Walker here, certainly with the positioning of his feet, not getting backed up as much as he was in the first two rounds, but yet to really get the shots off.
10:37Again a body shot, the clusters from Davis, Walker trying to come on and glance his feet a bit.
10:45But he can fire off that jab there, Davis, see it there.
10:51He dips the legs, throw the right hand over the top.
10:55It's nice and relaxing in Davis when he throws the shots, not loaded up, nice and smooth.
11:00Certainly more aggression from Kurt Walker here.
11:06Attempts to body shot, nice right hand to the head, corner like that, the blood from the nose, he's taking the fight to Davis now.
11:14Yeah, it's a good tactic, in my opinion, just getting bullied and outworked in those first two rounds and this is better.
11:24Needed to try something else, still early, don't get me wrong, but a good response from Walker.
11:29Certainly last minute of that third round, best one yet for Kurt Walker.
11:42Shabazz Massoud, we mentioned him earlier, he is the man, the only man to have beaten Liam Davis.
11:50And he will meet Peter McRaele, what a class for the IBO Superbantamweight title.
11:56It's a stack card at the BP Pulse Live in Birmingham.
12:01That's Saturday, June the 21st.
12:03Also the undefeated flyweight, Galal Yafai, who's in there with Francisco Rodriguez.
12:10That's for the interim WBC Flyweight World title.
12:14It's all live worldwide on DAZN.
12:18Good matchroom card coming from Birmingham.
12:26Something happening in the Midlands.
12:29Ben Whittaker the other night as well coming through that rematch against Liam Cameron.
12:33The crowd there that night were fantastic.
12:36It started to light fire around this area.
12:40And it's waiting for a star, isn't it?
12:43It really is, you know, to really catch fire in the last couple of decades.
12:49But some real talented fighters coming through.
12:52You say my old mate Matthew Macklin wasn't one of them.
12:54He was here earlier.
12:56He was a pretty good fighter from the area.
12:59And Rob McCracken.
13:00More than 20 years ago though, wasn't it?
13:01That's the right hand to say I'll go there from Walker.
13:05And again.
13:06And again.
13:10Body shots from Walker.
13:12I like the way he's trying to turn this around early.
13:16Back comes Davis though.
13:17He's got the extra artillery you feel in there, Liam Davis.
13:20He turns into the shot a little bit better, doesn't he, Davis?
13:27I think he's a little dealt with it, but he gets the full body into the punch.
13:31But you really want to see from Kurt Walker.
13:33Undefeated in 12.
13:35An ability to mix up tactics.
13:37We have that just with Owen Cooper against Chris Congo in the first fight.
13:43How you adapt in there.
13:45It's so key.
13:46Especially over 12 rounds.
13:48Yeah, and you want to see that desire, that will to win.
13:51And we're seeing it now from Walker.
13:53Starting to plant his feet.
13:54Starting to let shots go.
13:56Not getting bullied like he was in the first two rounds.
14:00I still like the variation of shots though from Davis.
14:02Mixing it up while dropping to the body with that left hand.
14:06He's starting to pull the trigger, isn't he, a little bit more here, Walker?
14:09Even if he's not landing with the shot at times, he's committed to the punch.
14:14I thought he was a bit caught in the headlights.
14:16First couple of rounds, but he seems to have settled down here, Walker.
14:20But Davis' combinations are flowing.
14:24And he throws them almost with ease, doesn't he?
14:28There's a lovely feel to them.
14:30Yeah, nice rhythm, nice relax.
14:32With the shoulders.
14:34And that lets the shots come out.
14:36But a few seconds ago, it was a nice left hook there from Walker.
14:38It just didn't turn the handle, it was a lovely shot.
14:40I'll tell you what, the atmosphere's grown in this arena already.
14:46Yep, beginning to really fill up here at the motor point.
14:51Lee Wood, the hero.
14:55I think he's trying to bully me that we're here, Walker.
14:57And I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, you know?
15:02You're having a bit of success doing it.
15:04Now, Davis doesn't seem really concerned.
15:08Again, the smile and the upper cancer.
15:11I think he feels stronger in there at nine stone.
15:14Walker, two knockouts on that 12-fight unbeaten record.
15:18That was a good win, wasn't it, over Lee and Woodstock.
15:23And he's had a couple of other decent ones, but this is a new level.
15:27As you hear the crowd.
15:29Well, on the big screen, they're going to see the big smile of Anto Kikachi.
15:50Well, he walked past his dressing room.
15:52I think he wanted to go in the ring right here, right now.
15:55He's a fabulous character.
15:57He really is.
15:59Used to deliver pizzas and Chinese takeaway.
16:02And now he's fighting on the big stage.
16:05And we love him, don't we?
16:06Living the dream.
16:07And what form he's on.
16:09He's going to look massive in there.
16:10He really will this evening.
16:12But it is a great fight.
16:14Winner stays on.
16:15Must win for both.
16:17And I'll tell you what, Barry.
16:18He will care not one jot about being in enemy territory.
16:22I think he'll enjoy it.
16:23I think he'll thrive on it.
16:24I really do.
16:26And ultimately,
16:27even though he's new to this sort of level of boxing,
16:30he's been boxing for a very long time.
16:31He's not going to be intimidated by the crowd.
16:34Though, if he were,
16:35a Nottingham crowd would do it.
16:36Liam Davies has brought plenty from Telford.
16:40It's the resurgence,
16:42the rebuilding exercise in fight number 18
16:45against this undefeated Kurt,
16:48Anthony James Walker from Lisbon.
16:50He's got to get back on the jab.
16:56Davis has neglected it in the last couple.
16:58A bit sharper,
16:59more variation with the shot.
17:01He was throwing it nice to the body.
17:03Nice fight there.
17:04It's a walk-off that though.
17:05But a good left hook from Walker.
17:07Yeah, nice shot from Walker.
17:09Davis tries to respond.
17:12That's better from the Irishman.
17:13He's trying to let his hands fly,
17:16but Davis seems to have an answer each time.
17:20I think it's been more of a change from Walker.
17:23That's why Davis is not maybe doing
17:24what he was doing in the earlier rounds.
17:26I just think he's committed to his attacks now.
17:29He's having a really good go.
17:30He tries that left hook.
17:36Yes, the right shot, isn't it?
17:37Especially to try to disguise it a little bit more maybe,
17:40but it's a shot that he's having.
17:41He's getting low and then coming up with it over the top.
17:45All the skills he honed in the amateur's Walker
17:49to win the medals in the Commonwealth Games
17:52and the Europeans
17:53and to represent his country in the Olympics.
17:56He tucks up well.
18:00It's good work from there,
18:01but don't get me wrong,
18:02but he keeps the hands high.
18:03Walker gets into his shell nicely.
18:06Nicely from Davis,
18:07wasn't he?
18:08Off with Emil.
18:12Stop throwing that left to the body as well, Davis.
18:15When he's in that shell,
18:17Walker can tap upstairs with the left hook
18:19and try and get round that right elbow
18:20with the left hook.
18:26It's an effortless jab almost of Liam Davis.
18:32Again, just stretching with those body shots.
18:36I can't believe he could be sharper with that jab though.
18:38Don't get me wrong,
18:39he uses it well,
18:40but at times he can be a little sloppy with it,
18:42just pause it at times.
18:46Just growing the confidence here a little, isn't he, Walker?
18:48He's not doing loads more,
18:50but I mean,
18:50you see the bumps to his step,
18:51you know,
18:51he then eventually,
18:53he feet in with the jab
18:54with the right hand over the top a second ago.
18:56He's gone on there, Barry.
18:57There is a bounce to his step,
18:59looking for angles.
19:01Maybe he feels he's going to come on
19:02in the second half of this,
19:05that his boxing ability will begin to
19:09really stop swinging for Walker.
19:16Davis,
19:17methodical pressure,
19:20not quite as cute as he was
19:22in the first two or three rounds,
19:24Davis.
19:25That was good pressure
19:26the last minute or so
19:27from Liam Davis.
19:28It did land a great deal,
19:30but it made Walker move an awful lot.
19:33he's eating it now,
19:48he's slowing down,
19:50Drop the left hand, yeah. Keep that jab.
19:57He definitely don't like the jab, son.
19:59He's eating it now, look.
20:01He's slowed down, he's starting to slow down.
20:03Just keep your feet the touch up, what's different, the head of him all the time.
20:07Look, the little movements, little veins, so he doesn't read nothing.
20:11You can't see him coming when you just chop, chop, chop.
20:13You know what I mean?
20:14Well, Errol Johnson saying he's going to slow down, Walker.
20:24I didn't think that.
20:26Not a great deal, look, it was good pressure, like I say, in that final minute from Davies.
20:30He needs to get straight on the chest of Walker now and really make him work, if that is going to be the case.
20:37We're into the sixth round.
20:39The vacant IBF Intercontinental belt at stake here in the Nine Stone division.
20:45The former domestic champion at Super Bantamweight and European holder as well.
20:49Liam Davies in with Kurt Walker.
20:52Untested at this level, but unbeaten.
20:55And an unbeaten fighter, Barry, is always a dangerous one.
20:59Yeah, of course, he's got so much to prove and he can fight with a freedom,
21:02isn't that like he is at the minute?
21:04But the jab is key.
21:05I think Errol Johnson's right on the corner.
21:06The jab is key for Davies.
21:08He has to be solid, fast and a real step behind it.
21:11There's that left hook we're talking about.
21:19But is that lack of power a problem for the Irishman?
21:22It might be, but it might be the way he fights, always moving around, never setting his feet.
21:28But when he moves into attacks, there's enough weight in the shot to get the respect.
21:32Davies who had such a good spell before the defeat to Pasun, including a one-round blowout win over Jason Cunningham.
21:50He had such a great career, an Indian summer now.
21:54A leading trainer in the business is really Josh Padley's career, hasn't he?
21:59Good to see him around the scene, but Davies at that point was looking like he could go to world level.
22:06That was better there.
22:08Just through three shots, walk over.
22:10He needs to get that right hand into play, not throwing it nearly enough.
22:14At the time you can see the lead hand drops ever so slightly and the chin is there.
22:19There are openings for that right hand.
22:21He's got to be sharp with the shot.
22:23I think Davies has shot a real long run too.
22:26When Walker got the left-hander, he wants to take a little step back.
22:29Because Davies touches so long, he just fully extends that right hand.
22:32I think he had catch Walker flush.
22:34Not as much clean in this, the sixth round.
22:44And that's more of a worry for Walker than is Davies, because Davies is constantly active with the jab and he is the guy walking forward.
22:53So the impression is he's maybe doing the more work, whether that's true, but impression is quite important.
23:00Without a shadow of a doubt, he's making Walker move.
23:03And that is going to take something out of the tank, certainly down the stretch.
23:08It's not frantic, but it will take something out of Walker.
23:17Certainly, as I say in those later rounds, as it did against Liam Woodstock last time out.
23:23He's catching the eyes of the judges here.
23:27Davies believes he's in control at the halfway mark.
23:33With a little nod there from Kurt Walker, as if to say everything's okay.
23:40I hear this, yeah?
23:46You've got that in you all day.
23:49Yeah?
23:50That's how it's going to have to be.
23:51You can't let nothing clean.
23:52You can't hurt me.
23:53You're the same.
23:55You stay like that, Kurt.
23:57You stay sharp like that.
24:03Keep changing the combination heights, yeah?
24:06High, low, low, high, baby.
24:08Okay?
24:12Try and throw that double hook on the ropes, yeah?
24:14Be careful when you're high and stiff in the ropes, okay?
24:18Good man.
24:19I've got it 4-2, okay?
24:20Good boy.
24:214-6 seconds.
24:23They've got it 4-2.
24:25What does that mean to Walker?
24:27Or 4-2 the other way?
24:29Frank Orange is having to work with Liam Davies.
24:32Second half of this, I'm going to bring in our own Carl Frampton.
24:35Carl, how are you seeing things?
24:37I have Davies in front at the minute, but a lot of the rounds, well, look,
24:40some of the rounds were close.
24:42Could have went either way, so the scorecards could be all over the place at this point,
24:45but I think that Kurt isn't letting his hands go enough.
24:50There's periods where he's doing a little bit of work,
24:52and then he would have a big, maybe a 30 seconds off, and he's blocking shots,
24:56but some of them are getting through, and it's just not a good look for the judge, I think.
24:59I'd like to see him work a bit more and try to start pushing Liam Davies backwards.
25:04You know him well, and he's such an accomplished amateur,
25:08and this is sort of a maturing night for him too, isn't it?
25:12Yeah, it is.
25:13Look, it's easily the biggest test to date in Kurt Walker's career.
25:17Massive occasion for him, but he's still in this fight.
25:21I do have him behind, and he's an opportunity.
25:23If you beat someone like Liam Davies, who recently was being talked about
25:27as a potential opponent for Inoue,
25:30yeah, you're putting yourself right amongst the mix.
25:33Thanks Karl, Nick Ball now being talked about as a future opponent for Inoue.
25:40Frank Warren says that they are in talks,
25:43Inoue knocked down at the weekend but got the job done,
25:47and now the knockout win for the pound-for-pound superstar.
25:51These guys, nowhere near that sort of level,
25:54but this is as important a night for them,
25:57Liam Davies and Kurt Walker.
26:00Davies has shown a real patience to his work,
26:02and that goes with experience.
26:04Especially when Walker's sort of moving his head quite a lot,
26:07like he's done in the last few rounds.
26:09He hasn't panicked, and he hasn't tried to go head-turning too much.
26:12He's just waiting till the target stopped,
26:14and then pulled up the jab.
26:16Yeah, I agree with Karl.
26:18I just feel there's more coming from Davies,
26:21and he's the one filling in the gaps.
26:23There's that jab to the head and the body,
26:25and just a little bit more,
26:26and that does catch the eye, certainly, of the judges,
26:29and the corner of Walker saying it's 4-2.
26:32I've got it 4-2, Davies.
26:34Nice left hook, though, from Walker.
26:38He's better when he, again, when he moves those shoulders,
26:40he gets a different angle to the attack, doesn't he?
26:42Especially with the hooks.
26:43Hard to defend against.
26:46Body shot again from Davies.
26:50One was slightly low, that one.
26:52More accurate.
26:53Good work from Walker.
26:54Really digging in here, which is great to see.
26:57And Davies responds.
27:00Excellent action.
27:01Back end of the seventh.
27:03Look how much better he is.
27:04Walker really lets the shots go.
27:06Now that will catch the eye of the judge.
27:09That sort of work, that sharp combination punch in.
27:13Very, very good.
27:17Again, not really.
27:18No continuity in his work here.
27:19No, Walker.
27:20A little spur to the attacks.
27:22And Davies, maybe not the flash at work,
27:26but a better work ethic, for sure.
27:29There's been some good punches landed by Kurt Walker in this round.
27:32Well, this is the big one of the summer.
27:49But, Usik Dubois too.
27:51The IBF heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois.
27:55Looking, of course, for redemption against the WBA, WBO, WBC, pound for pound heavyweight king, Alexander Usik.
28:05It's the big rematch for the undisputed heavyweight title.
28:09The first time ever that the undisputed heavyweight title has appeared on our shores.
28:15July the 19th at Webley Stadium.
28:17First fight won by Usik.
28:19Not without controversy.
28:21Corners.
28:22Low blow.
28:23No low blow.
28:24Darren and I have been arguing about it for weeks.
28:26The epic rematch happens exclusively and only here on DAZN.
28:32I've got to say, why have you been arguing about it?
28:36I don't understand.
28:37Was it?
28:38Wasn't it?
28:39Let's carry on with this.
28:43You see it on the fence, isn't it?
28:45Well, I am sat on the fence.
28:46I just get really angry about it.
28:49Well, it was certainly all fun and games in the build-up of the press conferences.
28:53Photographs being taken.
28:55Well, they photoshopped.
28:56Snappy snaps were busy when or that night.
28:58But anyway, it will all come down to who is the better man.
29:02The two best heavyweights.
29:04Well, Joe Park will probably say something about that.
29:06Arguably in the world.
29:08Set to meet for the second time in the summer.
29:13Cannot wait.
29:15Right, that's going to be...
29:17Liam Davis is looking strong here.
29:20On the front foot.
29:23Looks like there's a bit more about him physically.
29:26More pop in the shots.
29:28Just working that bit harder as well, Adam.
29:30Who did he give the seventh round to, guys?
29:33I've got Davis.
29:34Yeah, me too.
29:36See, Davis' jab is funny because it's not the fastest,
29:38but it always finds a home.
29:40I mean, it's a weird thing.
29:41You think you'd be able to read it quite comfortably,
29:43but the time is really good at it.
29:45It always finds a home.
29:46That was good work with the jab from Kurt Walker there.
29:50You can see all the ability.
29:53And even if he doesn't win tonight, he's learning now.
29:56Round after round.
29:57Round after round.
29:58This is the 84th only of his professional career.
30:02And his amateur one was a long one.
30:04He is 30,
30:07but he is finding out what it's like to really be
30:10a hard and professional tonight.
30:13And he's responding well at times.
30:15I tell you something.
30:16He's showing a little clip there that
30:18when he lets his hands go,
30:19he's so much better and more better to watch.
30:21And I don't think he should be over aggressive with it.
30:22No.
30:23But, you know, I think he has to go again more often
30:26for the combination.
30:27And I just feel a little frustrated because of that.
30:30Because when he does let the hands go,
30:32it's really, really nice to watch.
30:33But, you know, he's so technically sound.
30:36He sort of eliminates the risk of getting caught with something
30:39by eliminating the amount of shots that he throws.
30:42It's a funny thing.
30:43You throw too many shots.
30:44You know, you're getting...
30:45You don't get in a firefight with Liam Davis.
30:47If you don't throw enough shots,
30:48he'll walk you down and pull you anyway.
30:50So you've got to get the balance right.
30:51Shabazz Massoud showed the way to unlock Liam Davis.
30:57But Massoud's a really good fighter.
31:00Unbeaten body shots from Davis.
31:03Just trying to slow down Walker.
31:05It's that extra experience.
31:07A bit more knowledge about how to handle these 12 rounds,
31:11these big crowds, these occasions.
31:14It all just seems to be going in his favour.
31:18Lovely there from Davis though.
31:20Nice little fast one-two left hook
31:21and a right hook for the body straight after.
31:27Yeah, he's boxing well here.
31:29Yeah, just a really good methodical approach isn't it from Davis?
31:31Yeah, dabs in his eye there, Kurt Walker.
31:40Eh.
31:41Squig, I need him to rinse.
31:47Rinse, spit.
31:49Rinse it, spit it.
31:50Good man.
31:54I'd like to take a sip.
31:55Huh?
31:56Want to take a sip?
31:57Yes.
31:58Listen to me, yeah?
31:59He's not going to turn off.
32:01Yes, that's fine.
32:02Listen.
32:03Every time you go off the line,
32:04you just need to stay with your hands.
32:05If you go off the line,
32:06stay with your hands,
32:07and then go wrong with him.
32:08Yeah?
32:09Listen to me.
32:11I need to be smart with him, Kurt.
32:13Okay?
32:14It's four rounds.
32:15I just need you to take this pill,
32:16maybe it's actively moving out.
32:17Okay?
32:18Yes?
32:22Yeah, really.
32:23Trying to motivate Kurt Walker in there.
32:25Needs these four rounds.
32:27He's probably right there.
32:28Round nine.
32:29There's the Iqbal in that red corner.
32:32He's got to be away behind here.
32:34Kurt Walker.
32:35What can he find in these championship rounds?
32:38It's unknown territory, really.
32:40A place that Liam Davis has been before.
32:43And it's just a relaxed, composed feel to the man from Telford,
32:49who's looking for victory number 17.
32:51And one he needs to get that career rolling again.
32:55The body shots.
32:56Everything's just flowing that bit more.
32:59Yeah, it's just a mature, experienced performance.
33:02He's just picking the shots.
33:04As I say before, filling in the gaps.
33:06Just catching the eye of the judges.
33:08Never really hurt Walker with anything of note.
33:12But it's constant.
33:13That move from Walker at the start of the round.
33:16It's really good.
33:17He should be firing off it.
33:18When he bumps to the left, he should be coming back with a little two-punch combination.
33:22Bobbing over to the right-downside, coming back again.
33:24And then working on that semi-circle around the body there.
33:28With Davis.
33:34Again, look.
33:35That's, you know, sort of ten shots.
33:37Not all of them were landed, but nothing coming back from Walker.
33:40It was all Davis in that department.
33:43The work rate.
33:44The tempo.
33:48The body shot again.
33:49Dug in.
33:54He knows how to manage these fights, Davis.
33:57Better from Walker.
33:58Can he land a sustained attack?
34:01And really try to rip these last four rounds.
34:06And make the judges believe in it.
34:08And when you say sustained attack, it doesn't need to be ten shots on the bounce.
34:13It can be two or three.
34:15Move your feet, then go against straight away.
34:17Don't need to be reckless.
34:19But you need to start letting your shots go.
34:22And Davis has that, just that experience and maturity that when Walker lets his hands go,
34:27he just covers up.
34:28Doesn't panic.
34:29And just watches the target.
34:30Wasting for something to come back.
34:31And then lets his hands go.
34:33Occili is just trying to time his punches, Davis, and catch the eye of the judges.
34:44Blood from the nose of Walker.
34:45Walker, he might be breathing a bit heavier now, it's sort of not desperation time, but
34:51he's really got to bite down on the gun shield, he's got to take the fight here to Davis.
34:56And there's little subtle moments as well, where Davis just grabs hold of Walker, he just
35:01knows how to tie up his man and really leaning on the experience that he has.
35:06Walker's trying to tough it out here, and I think it's the wrong tag, I think he has
35:09to be busier, but he's trying to be over physical, and I think he's coming second best, I think
35:13it's tiring him up more than it is Davis, again that maturity experience of not panicking
35:18when you're under a bit of pressure, I think Walker trying to win the fight this way, he's
35:22sort of working against him a little bit here.
35:25Walker just forcing some shots home there.
35:30Combinations of speed is Walker's friend, and he's just trying to bully himself into the fight.
35:34And then he's putting back in, legs, how do you feel, good?
35:48You want to give me a minute then, then he'll switch off, come on mate, come on!
35:55Get that jab working again, start mixing it up again, I want a little bit faster with the backhand, yeah?
36:00The left looks just a little bit too wide, shorten it up, you know mate?
36:04Yeah, especially when he misses BAM!
36:06Yeah, and I know that man, BAM!
36:08You got me, nice and sharp, yeah?
36:09Yeah, come on, let's step it up in there, you're too comfortable man!
36:14Yeah, he looks really good in that corner, Liam Davis.
36:18I'm not saying it's like a spa, but it's like an exhibition here from Davis, he's managed the rounds cleverly,
36:26he looks still fresh at this stage, pressure on his shoulders to come back from the defeat,
36:32and I think he's done ever so well here tonight.
36:34Yeah, yeah I do, but I agree with Errol there, I think he's in his comfort zone,
36:38Liam Davis, and he can let more shots go, I think he can apply more pressure and really, really
36:46put a dent in Walker at this stage.
36:48But boxing nicely, don't get me wrong, show it an awful lot, the experience, his old man in Walker,
36:55if you like, with that, you know, that top level experience that he has, look at the work,
37:00constant work there, nice jab though, back from Walker.
37:03And I don't think, with Davis, he hasn't got the fastest of hands, I don't think he's a,
37:07we've seen some great knock-offs, but I don't think he's a KO artist, but what he is,
37:12he's heavy-handed, and he has really good timing, again, every time he throws a jab,
37:16he always lands with it, all the time.
37:19We've seen some really good knock-outs that have caught everybody's attention,
37:23eight in all from Liam Davis, but I just don't think that's what he wanted to do tonight,
37:28I think he's wanted to put on a display of boxing, of a mixture, jab, aggression, control,
37:39and a move into this featherweight division with a polished performance.
37:44Yeah, I know what you're saying now, but if you would have offered him a 12 round points win,
37:50comfortable, or a one round knockout, he's going to take the one round knockout every day of the week.
37:54Darren, look how many punches he's thrown, almost double, landing nearly 150.
37:59But this is what he does.
38:00It's been work rate, it's been sustained, and it's been just one round after the other in similar fashion.
38:09Again, experience and maturity, they've been the key words, I think, and patience for Davis.
38:14It's got to give Walker his character, I don't think he's having the right tactic here,
38:16but he's never been in a fight like this, and he's boxing out the character, trying to push Davis back.
38:23That's the sign of a champion there, he's just doing his best with all means to try and win a fight,
38:26trying to turn it wrong. It's not working, but the effort's there.
38:30Yeah, 100%, you've got to come in that, he's tried, but he's just second best here.
38:41Just arm punches there from Kurt Walker, but really gutsy here.
38:48Trying to find a way, it's got to be so hard with Ernie McAvillers' stoppage wins,
38:53lower down in level, he's not been overwrought like I thought he might do.
38:58He did fight at Wembley Stadium on the Tyson Fury-Dillian White night,
39:03so he's used to the huge platform, and he's trying to dig in here.
39:09Kurt Walker late on in the 10th round, real credit here.
39:15That was good, that, because Davis Daniel is a lovely three-punch combination,
39:18and Walker really paid him back for it.
39:22Watches out, Davis.
39:22Little body shots, I love the way he does that near Davis.
39:26He's done so well isn't he here, Davis, he's going to give him his credit.
39:31Needs and tiny and very professional from Liam Davis.
39:36Bags a courage for Kurt Walker, but he's got a mountain to climb.
39:41He'll need a knockout now from somewhere.
39:43Well, coming up next, it's a battle of the armies.
39:52It's Taylor against Jones in this incredible light heavyweight division.
39:58Yeah, it really is stacked here in the UK, but this is a good fight.
40:02Jones looked good last time out.
40:04Ezra Taylor, I mean, he really does punch violently with both hands.
40:09You can hear on the pads, that right hand of Ezra Taylor just warming up.
40:18The determination for Jones, neither wants a blitz on their mark.
40:24Coming up next, and of course, all awaiting the big one here on DAZN, it's Ante Kakache in Leawood.
40:37More and more in the crowd, a lovely sunny day in Nottingham.
40:42The bars emptying around the city centre and filling up here in the motor point.
40:46There's going to be some atmosphere in about an hour's time.
40:51Really, really good fights ahead, particularly the main one.
40:55Last six minutes of this, it's Liam Davis and Kurt Walker.
40:59Can Kurt Walker find, well, something astonishing?
41:06It's not because he doesn't have the power there that that's going to be unlikely,
41:09but the effort's been there.
41:11I just think that tactically he's got it wrong.
41:13He's trying to push through it to get himself into the fight.
41:19I think this effort is really, really impressive from Walker at the end here.
41:23Look, and he's going to lose this fight, I'm pretty sure of that,
41:26but you want to take something away from the defeat, and he will here.
41:30He can show his, you know, he can be proud of the courage that he's shown.
41:33He will to win the engine, the conditioning in these later rounds.
41:39Yeah, good work with Davis.
41:43Nothing wrong, Carl Frampton, with the effort here from Kurt Walker.
41:48He really wants it.
41:49Oh, not an effort.
41:50You can see him, I mean, he had a conversation in the corner a couple of rounds ago,
41:53and said to him, I need to start putting it on him now.
41:55So he knows what he has to do, and it's not the typical way that Kurt fights.
41:59It's a bit alien to him.
42:00He's not this aggressive come-forward fighter.
42:03He's normally a brilliant counter-puncher, but he has to try something different,
42:08and staying on the outside isn't working for him.
42:10He has to be trying to do it.
42:12He's trying.
42:12He's not winning, but I like the effort that I'm seeing from him.
42:16Is he a long way behind on your car?
42:17Yeah, I have him a long way behind.
42:19Only two rounds here left to go.
42:22But again, like I say, I'm liking what I'm seeing from Kurt.
42:25He's clearly trying his hardest.
42:27And he's going to understand, I think, after this, when he comes away from this fight walker,
42:32that he's going to need to do this moving forward.
42:35Not all the time, but he's going to have to bite down on that gunshot, let the shots go.
42:40It's been impressive having a count from Davis.
42:42Oh, Davis has been excellent.
42:44He's never, he's got this kind of, I know he can punch a bit,
42:48but he's never trying to put any power on the shots to Nate anywhere,
42:51and he's just kind of thrown them out, and that's why maybe he's better.
42:55He's not putting all the effort in these shots, and that's why he's so fresh,
42:57but I think he's boxed really well tonight, Davis.
43:01Agreed.
43:02I think he has, and I think he's looked to put a boxing masterclass on here.
43:08Liam Davis.
43:10Carl Walker has tried, he had a bad start and got going.
43:16He won a couple of those middle rounds, but Davis has been the boss in there,
43:21and still looks it with 10 seconds left in the 11th, Kurt Walker.
43:28Well, he's tried everything and it's not been good enough,
43:32and he's got a round left to somehow salvage his unbeaten record.
43:37Yes, come on, you're saying your hips when you trade with him, okay, yeah?
43:53I still want you to be smart with it, baby, okay?
43:55You're saying those hands.
43:58Yeah, close, man, we brought that shit back.
44:02Last big round, okay, yes.
44:07I don't want this messing about you, sorry, not me.
44:10Just slap him one and let's get out of here, push him off.
44:14Deep press, yeah?
44:16Come on, let's dig.
44:17Yeah, yeah.
44:18Come on!
44:20Really good from Errol Johnson there, making sure that Liam Davis works as hard in the final round
44:27as he has throughout the fight.
44:28I don't know what the Kurt Walker corner really, they were saying it was close,
44:33is that a bit of kidology, do they believe some of these rounds their guy has got?
44:38I think he's a long way behind Liam Davis
44:42at Featherweight looking strong, robust, powerful, and it's a good comeback from the defeated.
44:50He's still as brightly in the 12th session as he was in the first, and he's got Walker going here
44:57for the first time, and the Irishman says, no, you haven't, but, well, I think he has.
45:02Lovely barrage a shot that from David, and he didn't load up with any of those shots.
45:07Nice flow, rhythm.
45:09When he brings him up to the middle, Davis, it's a lovely thing to watch, isn't he?
45:13What?
45:14I think he's been really good to watch tonight, Liam Davis, and I think he's going to be a force at Featherweight.
45:23I think when we hear from him afterwards, he'll be saying that nine stone suits him better,
45:27doesn't look tired, and he's put a lot of work in tonight, last two minutes.
45:31Gert Walker trying everything, undefeated in 12, but up in level, and he's just
45:39just been found a little watching in tactics, maybe, and in class tonight.
45:44I think that's what Carl said, that Davis has a good shot there from Walker.
45:48Davis hasn't loaded up, but I think that's been important, that's why he's been able to
45:52box with a higher pace, let his hands go.
45:56I think he's been really, really professional performance here from Davis.
46:00Structured, patient, kept his shape at all times, never panicked, and just been very,
46:05very accurate with his work, and that's been important for him.
46:09Certainly the right move, stepping up in weight for sure.
46:12Look at the engine, look at the, the skipping his step, if you like, even now in this 12th round.
46:19He's been busy, he's worked hard.
46:22Perometer Walker with a run from this fight, even if we think it's defeat,
46:26where he knows he can go to the dishing out at a decent pace, you'll know what he did wrong,
46:30what he did right, and you'll learn from this, it'll be a bad fight for forward.
46:33Incredible education for Kurt Walker.
46:37He will learn from this, and he's been gutsy every bit of the way here.
46:43But Liam Davis has put in the sort of display, to remind Craig Warren, and everybody that's believed in him, what he could do.
46:55And what a win that now looks for Shabazz Masood, as he goes into the Peter McGraw fight.
47:00Well absolutely, I mean, it was talented for Hugh Fingsley and Davis before that fight.
47:05So again, going back to Kurt Walker, he's in with a very, very good fighter.
47:10He's just been second best in every department, but as Barry says, he can take a lot from this fight,
47:15and improve, and learn, and be better for it.
47:18But ultimately, the jab is one of the fights he ever did in Davis,
47:21I think the jab has been absolutely brilliant for him.
47:24Light on his feet, and punching to the last pound. Liam Davis, take a bow.
47:32That was a really good response from your soul defeat.
47:37And it will be the soul defeat for Kurt Walker, who was brave and courageous,
47:44and he raises his hand, and he should get applause and real respect for the shift that he put in.
47:50But for us at ringside, it is Liam Davis's rebound, a return from that night against Shabazz Masood.
48:01He was so gutted afterwards, and he's got back into the ring, taken on an undefeated opponent,
48:08and showed us why he's not only a good fighter, he's a joy to watch.
48:14He really is when he's in full flow, when he's letting shots go like this, taking the little step back.
48:20The reverse one, two, showing lots of aggression, lots of fitness and desire,
48:24still in the last round after boxing so well, but I take my hat up to Kurt Walker,
48:29really stepping up in levels there, and showing that he can improve and he can move forward.
48:37And Darren, the accuracy from Liam Davis was fantastic, he barely missed with a shot.
48:41He waited his time, but when he threw out, Jerry didn't miss the right hand.
48:44You see that little clip there, every punch he threw, he landed with.
48:48There's Liam, talking to Lee Eaton and George Warren, he'll be really pleased about that.
48:54And how about this?
48:56After becoming the undisputed at Super Lightweight, Josh Taylor moves up into the welterweight division
49:03to take on Echo Esserman, who's of course from right here in Nottingham.
49:08It will be Taylor's Queensry debut, his first fight in a year, as he looks to assert himself as a force.
49:16Glasgow Ovo Hydro live on the zone in a couple of weeks' time.
49:22It really is a packed and stacked mate. Errol Johnson happy, Liam Davis happy, and Kurt Walker.
49:31Well, he should be pleased with the effort he put in, and he will really get ring education as a professional.
49:42Nothing he doesn't know from the amateur ranks, but he learned what it was like to go in with
49:47a hardened 12-round fighter, who will get the decision now. Let's hear it officially from Thomas.
50:04Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of boxing, we go to the judges' scorecards.
50:11Judge Bob Williams scores it 117-111. Judge Michael Hook scores it 115-113.
50:21And Judge Amar Sakrawi scores it 116-112. All in favor of your winner by unanimous decision.
50:32And now the IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Champion.
50:41Liam Dangerous Davis.
50:47By four, by a surprisingly narrow two, and by probably a more respectable six rounds.
50:56Liam Davis wins unanimously, no question about that. Kurt Walker, gallant.
51:04All in favor had in briefå—Ž?
51:08Yeah, I really think.
51:24Let's proceed.
