00:06Assistant Chairperson ng Political Science Department ng University of the Philippines,
00:10isa po sa ating mga election partner. Magandang gabi po sa inyo, Professor Franco.
00:14Good evening po. Magandang gabi.
00:16Welcome.
00:17Good evening.
00:18Atom, Pia, and Vicky.
00:21Thank you for joining us. Alam namin eh, medyo gabing-gabi ha.
00:25At galing pa po kayo sa Botohan.
00:27Yeah, and from other networks.
00:30Okay, alright. So, I guess our first question, Professor, kasi diba ang midterm elections,
00:36some people, they don't take it as seriously as the presidential elections,
00:41pero eto parang medyo naging mainit ang labanan somehow.
00:44And we've seen the results. Nagulat po ba kayo from how far the actual results are,
00:49although partial and unofficial, compared to the survey results?
00:53Yes, it's a surprise. You know, I'm a believer in surveys.
00:57Kasi, syempre, I mean, I teach politics. But then, I also know, diba, ang sabi natin,
01:04the, you know, the surveys are only as good as the day when it was undertaken.
01:11So, obviously, may nangyari, may mga kuro-kuro yung mga tao, and that's why hindi siya eksakto yung lumalabas ngayon, as we see it.
01:21No, no, no. What's happening? Sorry, go ahead.
01:37Moving forward with the impeachment and with other concerns kung saan magiging importante yung role ng ating mga senador?
01:45Well, yeah, obviously, yung sinasabing Duterte ay mukhang hindi naman mangyayari from what we're seeing right now.
01:56But then, of course, we also are witnessing the fact that, you know, Bongo is number one.
02:05And phenomenal talaga yung kanyang political fortunes. Can you imagine, pre-2016, he was a virtual unknown.
02:13And during the 2016 elections, nung nanalo si, parang ano sa kanya, parang gopher, di ba, ni Presidente.
02:21And yet, ngayon, number one in the Senate.
02:24So, parang ano nga eh, parang mixed ang pwede mong mabasa dahil, on one hand, number one si Sen. Bongo,
02:32number three si Sen. Bato de la Rosa, known allies of President Duterte.
02:46Well, I guess, napapakita rin yung polarization that's happening and which has happened since late 2023, di ba?
02:58And that also tells you that somehow it mirrors what we're seeing in the approval ratings of the President and the Vice President.
03:09That the people are not very happy with what's happening and so they had to, you know, make their voices heard in terms of really thinking a lot, you know, about who to vote for in this election.
03:27Professor, what do these results that we're seeing now tell us about the Filipino voters?
03:32Obviously, I could say that there's somehow people are already sort of thinking about dynasties.
03:43I mean, like, halimbawa yung Kulpo, we were expecting na top five yung dalawa, no?
03:51But then, parang, so parang, kung ako yung magbabasa, parang, kung ako yung voter, teka muna, parang sobra naman, di ba? Parang ganon, no?
04:00Kung sakasakalik sa tatlong Tulfo, no? Sa Senado at dalawang Bilyar naman.
04:04I guess they, the people have actually probably thought about the fact that, teka muna, parang sobra na yung may tatlong magkakapatid.
04:16Pero baka yung dalawa, okay lang, no? Kasi dalawang Bilyar, dalawang Kayataan na rin.
04:21Yun yung threshold.
04:23O, yun na nga eh. But then, siguro naman, hope springs eternal, di ba?
04:28At tingnan natin kung, siguro little steps.
04:40Like for example, sa Manila, leading the race is former mayor Isco Moreno.
04:45And then, in Batangas, nakita natin na si Vilma Santos is leading right now.
04:54Pero yung anak niya, hindi pa nakakalapit.
04:59Kaya incoming governor Mandana.
05:05Parang same lang ba as the national?
05:09I think the discourse about dynasties is beginning to have an impact on how people are voting.
05:19Sana, I mean, of course this is very normative.
05:31I hope alam nyo yan.
05:33At mukha wala kayong choice.
05:34Sama-sama tayo sa ating pagbabantay. Magbabalik pa rin ang eleksyon 2025.
