Zelensky, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, held a high-level phone call with Donald Trump on May 16. The emergency dialogue came as Russia refused a ceasefire and demanded full Ukrainian withdrawal from key regions it doesn't entirely control — Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. While Ukraine, led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, pushed for genuine negotiations, Putin declined direct talks and sent aide Vladimir Medinsky instead. 00:00We just had a meeting with President Zelensky

00:28and then a phone call with President Trump to discuss the developments in the negotiations today.

00:35And the Russian position is clearly unacceptable and not for the first time.

00:40And so as a result of that meeting with President Zelensky and the discussion with President Trump,

00:45we are now closely aligning and coordinating our responses and will continue to do so.

01:25As a few days ago, in Kiev, we have, with President Zelensky,

01:31returned to the rendezvous that were held to Istanbul,

01:35where the Russian delegation decided to exclude the American delegation.

01:39We have now, at the moment, a discussion with President Trump

01:44for first to consider that it was unacceptable, for the second time,

01:50that Russia and President Putin do not respond to the demands

01:54who were made by the Americans, supported by Ukraine and the Europeans,

01:58no ceasefire and no rendezvous at a decision level,

02:03and no response on ceasefire.

02:05And so, in this context, we will continue to coordinate with our European partners,

02:08the coalition of volunteers and the United States.

02:11There will be in the next few hours new contacts and return,

02:14and we will bring the answers required.

02:16We will continue to fight for peace,

02:19and we will continue to be on the side of President Zelensky

02:22and we will be on the side of President Zelensky

02:24with the United States of America.
