THE SAN JOSE DE MALAMBO ORPHANAGE began its labor on May 15, 1890. It is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, and was founded by philanthropist Mr. Manuel Jaen, who in 1897 gave the administration to the Company of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

From 1890 to 1994, the Orphanage functioned in a two-story building on 17th Street, Santa Ana, District of Panama. In 1995, thanks to the support of the Friends of the Malambo Home, businesses and individuals, the construction of the new San Jose de Malambo Orphanage is completed in the village of Cerro Silvestre, Arraijan.

Since its foundation, the orphanage provides care and education for children and adolescents, whether Panamanians or foreigners.

SAN JOSE MALAMBO SCHOOL As of 1890, it offers education to poor girls at social risk. From then until now, it has had legal, structural and administrative changes, in line with the curricular and scientific advances.

It currently serves a mixed student population, where the majority of the female students live in the San Jose Malambo Home; others come from the communities of Chorrera and Arraijan, with an enrollment of 400 students.

The educational offer ranges from grammar school to high school education. It has two high schools: sciences with specialization in agriculture and ecotourism and trade with a specialization in tourism services. It includes a vocational program in the area of beauty, dressmaking, pottery and pastries.
