Whether it was the dispute about education in Hamburg, protests against the railway station building project known as Stuttgart 21, demonstrations in Berlin against proposed flight paths or the anti-nuclear movement, Germans have been using the streets as a political stage. More and more of the demonstrators come from the middle classes. Is this just a temporary phenomenon or are elected representatives losing the trust of the people?
