Fresh on the scene and arriving just in time for late summer 2007 is the Orange County grown and Beachwood Canyon resident new rock band, COWBOY ROBOT. Having just recorded their debut album, PENNY ARCADE, they are ready to hit the streets and tour the world with the help of local indie record label, Yakuza Music Group (YMG).
Their inspired music weaves together sliding, spacey build-ups, biting guitars, power drumming, and ethereal, delicately sung songs. Sparse, frozen, Detroit-sounding bellows mix perfectly with an uplifting, California-influenced rock & roll blend -- delivering a meaningful, unique rock-pop sound for 2008 and beyond.
It is their personalities, as much as their music, that create the sense that this is an important band. Each band member is a hybrid of essential rock and roll characters -- whether it's Kaleb's deeply meaningful, soft spoken styles reminding us of rock poets like John Lennon and Chris Martin, or Johnny's swagger, style and yowl calling to mind Mick Jagger and David Bowie, Mike's edgy presence, aloof showmanship and music talents creating reference to a taller Thom York or Shane's straight ahead rock poundings giving way to a Dave Grohl / Chad Smith comparison -- but it is the four seen as a whole that demands attention. They are a rock and roll band -- the kind that stick around and provide catchy memorable tunes we have to play again and again -- one day giving us a new "Joshua Tree" to catch shade under and feel our feelings deeply.
