'Last verse for Kenny'- pour un ami qui est décédé l'année dernière.
Kenny was the well known Union leader at Newcastle City Council. He knew he was dying but worked right to the end.The last time I saw him, he'd been working from home as much as he could, avoiding the journey etc. into the office. He told the story of how, one day, he'd had to go into the Civic Centre for an important meeting, but he forgot his security pass and so couldn't show it. And they wouldn't let him in, despite knowing very well who he was. The story has stuck in my memory. He was a wide reader too. I got to his 'anticipatory wake', but couldn't get to his funeral some months later, so this is by way of a tribute and I've adapted the last verse accordingly.
