Genre: a term that clearly doesn't sit right with young guitar wielding rapper Jovel Walker, better known as Random Impulse. And its this defiance that is quickly making him one of the most exciting and innovative new acts currently surfacing through the UK music scene, with artists as varied as Example and Jack White of the White Stripes claiming to be 'big fans' of his innovative and exciting new sound.

His songs blend the distorted crunch of punk fused rock riffs, booming 808 subs combined with the thunderous crash of live drums, rapid fire hip hop verses partnered with huge infectiously catchy hooks.

In 2011, he released 2 new EP's, 'Overload' and 'No Sleep For Winners', showcasing his new found ability to play live musical instruments and his new genre-crossing musical direction to great reaction, receiving remarkable write ups in Metro, RWD, Music Week, Mixmag and The Guardian to name a few and appearing in countless 'Sound of' polls by FHM, The Guardian, The Mobo's & MTV. 'On A Roll' from his 'No Sleep For Winners' EP was played by Zane Lowe on Radio 1 as his 'Next hype' and in October 2012 was added to the Radio 1 playlist. Random performed sessions from BBC Maida Vale for Rob Da Bank and for Huw Stephens and was tipped as one to watch for 20132 by 1Xtra.

Now with a debut album co-produced by Neil Comber (Florence & The Machine, M.I.A, Delilah) due for release in 2013, an ever growing loyal fan-base and a heavy gigging schedule, it seems safe to say that we are all about to witness just how uncertain the term 'genre' really is, just as it is certain that the new year and the many to follow, hold a place for Random Impulse.
