MANSION, ALASKA

Inspired by the thought of people and places defined solely by their absences, the name Mansion, Alaska was born. When the five-piece band heard the story of an Alaskan manor that simply could not be sold in the great depression, they gravitated towards the idea of a house admired for it's beauty, yet could not do the one thing that it was created to do: to be lived in.

From modest acoustic beginnings, Mansion, Alaska strived to combine folk influences, such as The National and Bon Iver, with the alternative rock and psychedelic sounds of Tame Impala and Radiohead. Progressing sonically, they have recently begun flirting with the electronic styles of Seekae and Ghoul.

In 2012 Mansion, Alaska signed to Darebin City Council's Decibels Records where they were given the chance to record an EP and work with industry professionals.

Mansion, Alaska began recording their EP with the skeleton of their live show. They quickly moved into adding more guitar lines, vocal layering and lo-fi aesthetic.

The self titled EP was mixed by Simon Lam and Hamish Mitchell from I'lls, who with their similar love for soundscape, texture and a lo-fi aesthetic, captured the atmosphere Mansion, Alaska were seeking. "I'lls really got that sound we had in our heads from the beginning", explains Dom Willmott (lead vocals and guitar).

Mansion, Alaska will be releasing their self-titled EP along with Dominique at the Decibels Records Artist Showcase and Release Launch, Northcote Town Hall as part of the 2012 Darebin Music Feast on Friday 28 September.
