ALUKA
With a passion for experimentation and creativity, Aluka are on a constant quest to reinvent A cappella. The trio sing original contemporary tunes that incorporate intricate harmonies, body and vocal percussion, tempo and time signature changes. Through their intricate yet accessible songwriting they are able to silence even the most VB fuelled punter.
However, Aluka never set out to be an A Cappella group. Their story is not unlike other bands, they simply enjoyed each others company and used what they had to create their music. In Alukas case this was three stella voices.
Aluka are on the cusp of releasing their debut album. An album that explores the sonic possibilities of everyday spaces teamed with catchy, sometimes quite poppy, sometimes quite eerie songwriting.
Since forming in 2008, the trio have gone from strength to strength playing headline shows and festivals throughout Australia including a show at the Sydney Opera House, The Queenscliff Music Festival, Folk Rhythm and Life, The Hills are Alive, Adelaide's Format Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival and were awarded a special commendation at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Aluka's vocal expertise has also been utilised by the likes of Clare Bowditch, Missy Higgins and Lisa Mitchell for whom Aluka have provided backup vocals.
The next 12 months look to be a busy time for the band. They will be releasing their debut album recorded by Nick Huggins, touring this album nationally as well as touring as part of Lisa Mitchell's band.
Aluka's debut album will explore the different textures and tone that a space adds to a recording. Each song on the album will be married to a unique space around Victoria and that song will be recorded in that space. The album promises to be a sonic journey that marries Aluka's pop sensibility with the avant garde spaces that are chosen.
