The extra-solar planet HAT-P-1b has baffled astronomers since it was discovered in 2006. The planet is puffed up much larger than theory predicts. HAT-P-1 has a volume nearly twice than of Jupiter’s yet it contains only half Jupiter’s mass. Compared to the planets in our own Solar System, HAT-P-1b is a big and fluffy lightweight. HAT-P-1b is probably composed of hydrogen and helium. HAT-P-1 is not the first low-density planet found outside our solar system, but it is the largest.
