Original title: electronitis
Duration: 27:00 minutes
Language: Danish
Subtitles: English
Country: Danmark
Synopsis
I had the rather unique possibilty of visiting the workshop of Danish artist Alice Monnerup while putting her final touches on what was to be the art installation Electronitis at a Copenhagen gallery. The resulting footage (Chapter I) shows her at work and describes what she intends to convey to visitors and the reasoning driving her to this particular exhibition. It took seven more months of hard work to finalize all details and be ready for the opening of her latest baffling 2016 exhibit - believe it or not, she's presently aged 92! At that age, she felt it being a right and appropriate point in time for a recap of impressions to be condensed in an art installation. The task facing her took more time and effort than she would have imagined at the beginning, but well worth the trouble and difficulties at the end of the day.
Her story (chapter II) starts at childhood to the tune of Hans Christian Andersen and his enthralling fairy tales. Later on, she had to realize that present-day reality cannot be a fairy tale as politicians and an army of officials leave behind a lot of trash as aptly shown in section II of her story.
The recent past and far future is and will be plagued by a very contagious electronite epidemy as documented in chapter III and medics are, now and forever will be, unable to devise a cure for what they call Electronitis in their own lingo. Our children have already caught this irremediable disease and grow up surrounded by electronic devices of all sorts. Alice Monnerup seems immune in being able to take a time travel to the future while making us reflect on the past.
