Talibanzition in Swat - Myth and Reality

Swat, a beautiful valley was overridden by the Taliban under the leadership of Mullah Fazal Ullah, the chief of TTP. The documentary explored into very harsh political realities and raised many questions with reference to the possible connivance of state institutions backing Mullah Fazal Ullah and his cohorts in the valley. Before this documentary was aired the people of Pakistan were bombarded with the fear of the Taliban but this documentary showed that the Taliban were let loose partially for the vested interests and partially for the strategy envisaged by the State regarding the future role of the Taliban in Afghanistan or Waziristan. The documentary bravely revealed the facts that the traders, shopkeepers, bureaucrats, politicians, singers, and even laborers were being threatened, killed and dumped only to create a fear of the Taliban. The Taliban did exist but they had had an umbrella of the state elements and state was behaving hypocritically. The leading politicians and the affluent people of the area had left for big cities while some people like Afzal Lala and Uncle Sippal were determined to stay there. The Taliban established their own courts and they created a state within state. Innocent but rich people were asked to leave their homes while the poor had nowhere to go. They said, "We are waiting for our turn to die". The Taliban used to hang a mutilated corpse everyday in the bazar. We didnt confide the ISPR (Inter Services Public Relations) to record these events. The journalist who wept hailed from Swat and he had been crying over the apathy of the countrymen for not asking the government to launch an operation to redeem the Sweatis. After this documentary the military operation was launched and the Taliban were wiped out.
