Lithuania approves plan to adopt euro but awaits green light from Brussels

Lithuania has moved one step closer to joining the euro after the country’s parliament approved to switch to the single currency at the start of next year.

The Seimas passed the law to adopt the euro by 87 votes to seven. There were 13 abstentions.

Brussels is expected to announce if it will give the green light to Lithuania’s entry to the single currency in June enabling it to follow Baltic neighbours, Estonia and Latvia.
