Keeping Tango Thursdays alive for a while longer~~~~~
Queja Melodiosa, a tango of Uruguay was recorded for Columbia Brazil in Buenos Aires in 1930. Apologies for the poor quality of the record but it is 84 years old. The 78 was a gift from Mike W, the gentleman who loaned me the Groos Collection to transcribe and share on YT and DM.
Minotto Di Cicco was born in 1898 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He studied piano and accordian at age 12 and the accordian led to study of the Bandoneon (a relative of the concertina). Before he was 18 he played professionally with Carlos Warren, pianist; and Galup Aalborg, violinist, at the Cafe Petit Salon in Montevideo. In 1917, the Alonso-Minotto Orquesta was formed and recorded 18 sides for Victor/Argentina in Buenos Aires. Minotto recorded and performed throughout the 1920s and in the late 20s, moved to Buenos Aires where he was in constant demand at cafes and clubs. Minotto retired to his home city of Montevideo where he died in 1979.
