Australia 'resettles' asylum seekers in Cambodia
They left behind war and poverty to seek asylum in Australia, but instead thousands of would-be refugees from countries such as Iraq, Syria and Burma are being sent back across the seas - to Cambodia. Canberra recently struck a 40-million-dollar deal with Phnom Penh to accept its asylum seekers. The deal is controversial in both countries. Critics say Cambodia lacks the infrastructure to meet the needs of its own people, never mind those of the asylum seekers.
