00:00In this North Carolina town, devastating scenes of fallen roofs and destroyed cars after Storm
00:07Helen raged through the state a week ago, leaving the streets and houses blanketed in
00:13mud and debris.
00:14Local volunteers go from home to home, clearing out the muck with spades and throwing out
00:20damaged furniture.
00:21It's just unbelievable that it came through here this quick, that so many people lost
00:26everything and probably hardly anyone had flood insurance because it never flooded.
00:33The storm broke road pipes and electricity lines, leaving residents with no power nor
00:38water.
00:39But communities like this one are mobilizing, each resident pulling their weight to help
00:44find basic necessities like food, whilst rescue teams continue to search through more remote
00:49mountain areas where many residents remain unaccounted for with a growing concern that
00:54the death toll will continue to rise.
00:58People are here alone, they don't have any friends or relatives nearby and we're the
01:02volunteers here helping them.
01:04Even private helicopter companies have joined the efforts to send aid to people stranded
01:09in isolated areas.
01:11President Biden made a second trip to the states of Florida and Georgia to survey the
01:16damage.
01:17This direct assistance is now being delivered, it's being delivered now, directly, with more
01:22to come.
01:23But folks, this entire project is going to cost billions of dollars, not tens of thousands,
01:30not millions, not a billion, billions of dollars because it goes through so many states.
01:36At least 200 people have been killed across the southeast states as a result of the category
01:42four hurricane, which officials say is the second deadliest to hit the US since Hurricane
01:48Katrina in 2005.
