Dal Makhani is one of the most popular punjabi recipe. It has become popular vegetarian dish in all parts of India with even few naming it as Maa ki Dal.
Ingredients:
- 1cup whole black gram
- 2tbsp red kidney beans
- 2tbsp bengal gram
- 3tbsp clarified butter (ghee)
- 1tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1/4 tsp Asafetida
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 2 green chili
- 1tbsp ginger & garlic paste
- 4 tomatoes puree
- 1tsp garam masala powder
- 2tsp red chili powder
- 1tsp kasoori methi powder
- 2tbsp tomato ketchup
- salt to taste
- 1/4cup fresh cream
Method:
- Wash dals, soak both dals and beans together for overnight, discard water from the dals and add 6 cups of fresh water
- pressure cook for some 2 whistle and remove from fire, after pressure drops keep it aside
- heat ghee, add cumin seeds, asafetida, chopped onion, and sauté well
- add green chilies chopped, ginger-garlic paste and tomato puree, garam masala powder, red chili powder, kasoori methi powder, tomato ketchup and salt to taste cook until ghee separates
- add soaked dal and mix well
- simmer on low flame for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring & mashing the dal occasionally.
- add fresh cream and mix well
- remove from fire and serve hot.
