Tito Nieves grew up in a musical environment. Natural Rio Piedras, Humberto Nieves arrived in New York when he was only a year. His father played guitar with various trios, and his uncle was the famous composer, singer and guitarist Miguel Angel Amadeo. With this influence Tito decided to study guitar, bass and drums.
The career of Tito Nieves began in 1975 with Orquesta Cimarron. When the singer Rafael de Jesus left Cimarron, Tito Nieves became the lead singer and stayed with them for two years. Between 1977 and 1978, Tito Nieves joined the orchestra of one of his idols, Hector Lavoe, he greatly influenced the career of Nevis. Sharing beside one of the most important voices of salsa, Tito Nieves had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons that will be useful later in his solo career. In 1979, Tito Nieves recorded for the first time as lead singer for Orquesta Taibori, an opportunity that offered the composer Johnny Ortiz. He also recorded for the orchestra Jaime Castro and The Slaughter.
All these experiences prepared him for, along with Ramon Rodriguez and Ramon Castro, form one of the sensations of the eighties: The Classic set.
This group quickly established itself as one of the most important in the world of music Afro-Caribbean groups. Much of the success of the group was due to the presence on stage of Tito Nieves, who with her distinctive voice created hit after hit: "Los Rodriguez", "The canoeist", "Congratulations", "pheasant", "Aimless one "among many others. With the Conjunto Clasico, Tito had the opportunity to travel extensively in the United States, the Caribbean and South America. Tito Nieves left this legendary orchestra in 1986, looking for new horizons.
In 1988 he was presented with the opportunity to record for the RMM label. His first major success for the company was the song "Sleepwalker", a composition of Leo Casino, appearing in his first album for RMM titled "The Classic" which reached gold record. Tito Nieves with this album definitely imposed its interpretive style, rushing to conquer international markets, leading the way for other artists who later formed the nucleus of what is known as "The Sound of New York", championed by RMM.
"I want to sing," the second album for this label, brought a pleasant surprise. The song in English "I'll Always Love You", taken to salsa style, becomes a success in the English-speaking radio stations. Thanks to this and other issues, the album reached the figures for credit as gold. With this production Tito Nieves horizons broadened by the famous "crossover" to the British market.
His third production, "Let me live" reached platinum status, including the hits "From me fall in love", "I love you", "Let me live", "Pillow" and "How To Keep The Music Playing". His fourth recording was released in June 1993 under the title "Puzzle". Inspired by the success of their songs in English, Tito decided to include two songs in this language "Can You Stop The Rain" and "You Bring Me Joy".
In 1995 he was released his fifth album, "A common type", which was produced in Puerto Rico by Cuto Soto and was arranged by Ramon Sanchez, Julito Alvarado, Louis Garcia and the same Cuto. Production included the song "No love me again" by Mexican singer Juan Gabriel and arranged by Sergio George. Another surprise was the album version of the classic theme Tito Selena "I have no choice."
Tito Nieves definitely had a strong impact on the British market with its sixth production recorded all in English "I Like It Like That". This issue led to major venues such as VIBE program UPN television network.
