Yuri Buenaventura, Knight of Arts and Letters in France

The French Ambassador, Jean-Marc Laforêt grant the Order of Arts and Letters in the rank of Knight of the Lord Yuri Buenaventura, the Colombian singer and composer, in a ceremony at the Residence of France in recognition of his contributions to French culture and his musical career.

Known both in Colombia and France, Yuri Buenaventura was discovered in 1996 by the salsa version of "Ne me quitte pas" by Jacques Brel. Radio Nova gave it known to the French public and helped him find a producer and a label to record his first album "African Heritage", for which he received in 1996 a gold record, becoming the first salsa singer to obtain this distinction in France.
Yuri Buenaventura left the anonymity and began his solo career between France and Colombia. It incorporated several songs from repertoire of French song, he recorded five albums, a compilation of his best songs and composed the soundtrack for the movie "Ma femme s'appelle Maurice" Jean-Marie Poiré.

Within Chaworo Orchestra, directed by Orlando Poleo, Yuri climbed a new step. In July 1996, his concert at the Tempo Latino festival in Vic Fezensac remained etched in the memory of the five thousand spectators who attended there.
