Aruna (Saira Banu) meets Subhash (Vinod Khanna) in jail and Subhash requests Aruna to marry his best friend Ravi (Vinod Mehra) who loves her a lot and of which Subhash is also aware of. Will Aruna agrees to Subhash?
Subhash (Vinod Khanna) is a fiery editor in a small town weekly newspaper named Mashaal. He stands against injustice by publishing articles about them in his newspaper. Ravi (Vinod Mehra) is a lawyer and a close friend of Subhash. Ravi stands by his friend, in his efforts towards the public welfare. In one such instance, he writes against the atrocities of Singh Sahab (Rehman), who is a local politician. Due to this, Subhash gets arrested on the charge of defaming a political figure. Despite the efforts made by Ravi, Subhash is sent to jail. Ravi, then takes up the responsiblities of Mashaal along with his sister Aruna (Saira Banu). Aruna is a local school teacher, who then starts contributing to the weekly as well. Subhash, after serving his term in jail, returns back and starts working in Mashaal. Aruna's and Subhash's similar interests in poetry, soon culminates into a mutual love relationship. Will these three people be able to end the anarchy with the help of their mighty pen?
