During his tour in UAE, PM Narendra Modi had visited the city of Masdar, which is also known as a zero-carbon city. Highlight of the tour was a short ride in a self-driving car Masdar’s Private Rapid Transit system.

These self-driving cars run on solar energy. Energy from the sun is used to power onboard lithium-ion batteries and an onboard software is used for navigation. It is said that the software is programmed in such a way that two such cars won’t ever collide with each other.

Apart from this, the PM also met with a few architects of the city. This short trip to Masdar by PM Modi is being seen as highly important since his own govt has announced plans to construct 100 smart cities in India. We don’t yet know when or how those 100 smart cities will be built, but let’s hope they do get gadgets like Masdar’s PRT.
