DALLAS — Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Zoe Hastings, 18, who was found dead on October 12, The Dallas Morning News reported.
On Saturday, Dallas police arrested Antonio Cochran, 34, after DNA evidence linked him with the murder, and witnesses identified the suspect as someone who matched Cochran's description.
According to The Dallas Morning News, the Hastings family's white minivan was sighted by witnesses at Walgreens where the teen was returning a Redbox movie before heading to church.
Witnesses told police that they saw a black male approach the van, and talk to Hastings who moved to the passenger seat as the suspect got behind the wheel. Another witness told police they saw the van hit a speed limit sign between 4:40 and 5 p.m.
The van was found crashed in a wooded area the next day around 21 miles away from where it hit the sign, Heavy.com reported. On the morning of October 12, Joe Noriega told police a man flagged down his car and told him there was an injured girl in the woods. Noriega discovered Hastings body as well as the minivan and contacted police, CBS DFW reported.
According to Heavy.com, Cochran posted to his Facebook page about attending a funeral for someone he referred to as "momie" the same day as Hastings funeral.
"He's obviously a sexual predator that's been taken off the streets, hopefully not to do this ever again," said Dallas police spokesman Maj. Max Geron told ABC-affiliate WFAA8.
Cochran was arrested at his Dallas apartment on Saturday and he has been charged with capital murder, and he's being held on $2.5 million dollars bail. Cochran has a prior arrest record after being accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl back in 2014, but he was acquitted.
