CATAWBA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA — A good samaritan was allegedly killed last Friday by a stranded motorist he stopped to aid during a snowstorm in North Carolina.

According to The Charlotte Observer, 27-year-old Jefferson Heavner stopped his truck to help when he saw a car had become trapped in the snow in the Bandys community, Catawba County at around 5.20 p.m.

Catawba County Sheriff's Office allege that Heavner and other good samaritans decided to call the police when they saw the stranded motorist, Marvin Jacob Lee, had become hostile.

"They thought he was drunk or on dope and said, 'Let's just call the law and let them deal with it,'" Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid told the Charlotte Observer.

Investigators say that Lee started shooting at the group as they were calling the police. Heavner was struck by a bullet and fell. Lee then allegedly stood over Heavner and shot him several times.

Lee allegedly refused to get out of his car when police arrived, so a SWAT team was called in to assist with his arrest, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Lee was taken into custody at Catawba County Jail and has been charged with murder.
