NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed on Friday afternoon outside of Mojave High School in North Las Vegas, Nevada, WBRC reported.
The shooting happened at about 4 p.m. less than a block away from school property. According to North Las Vegas police, there was a fight and 40 to 50 people were gathered around when shots rang out. Eyewitness Christopher Hernandez, 28, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal: "At first (the fight) was two-on-two, then people versus people. Then at the end just shooting went off. It was a good amount, like eight shots."
Many witnesses fled following the shooting, but other people stayed with the victim, who Hernandez said looked like he was shot in the stomach. Police have not released the identity of the victim, including whether or not he was a student at Mojave High School. He was taken to University Medical Center, but he later died at the hospital, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Police have not identified any suspects in the shooting, and their investigation is ongoing while they interview witnesses. Activities at the high school have been suspended and police are asking anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
