VIENNA — An American woman who was working as a nanny and studying German in Vienna, Austria was found lifeless in her pitch-black apartment on Tuesday.

Police and firefighters found Lauren Mann, 25, face down and partially dressed on her mattress on Tuesday night. Mann's employer, worried when Mann failed to show up for work that day, had called the police earlier that day.

According to the Local, an Austrian English news site, when police and firefighters forced open Mann's studio apartment door, all of the lightbulbs in Mann's apartment had burned out. The lightbulbs had to be replaced before a forensics team could examine the scene.

An autopsy showed that Mann had no external injuries. But a "considerable amount of blood" found near Mann's head suggests she suffered internal injuries, reported NBC News. Investigators have ordered a toxicological report to see if Mann was poisoned.

The cause of Mann's death is still under investigation and her death is currently being treated as a homicide.
