CALOOCAN, PHILIPPINES — Filipino television star, Angelica Jane Yap, better known as Pastillas Girl, is mourning the death of her 43-year-old mother, who was fatally shot in their neighborhood north of the capital, Manila, after receiving death threats telling her she would die before Christmas.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that Maria Theresa Hernandez had gone to a roadside eatery in Caloocan with her younger daughter and niece after a Church service on Sunday night. A man wearing a cap and denim jacket arrived and reportedly told the stall owner he was an undercover police officer waiting to bust a drug pusher. After remarking that Hernandez was pretty, he approached and shot her at close range with a 0.9 mm handgun. The bullet hit the right side of Hernandez's head. She was rushed to the hospital and declared dead around 12:41 a.m. on Monday.
The gunman ran away immediately after the shooting, and was last seen on a motorcycle, reports ABS-CBN News.
A relative has said one of Hernandez's former lovers may be behind the shooting, but police are considering that her killing may be related to her small business or her position as a local councilor and hard stance on drugs, according to GMA News.
