CONCRETE, WASHINGTON — Guns and selfies are not the safest choice; as a Washington state man enjoying some handgun-and-girlfriend selfie time over the weekend learned, in a rather final lesson.

The unidentified man — police say they are waiting to inform his relatives before releasing further info — was for some reason, taking selfies with his .45 caliber handgun and his girlfriend for hours on Sunday. He reportedly unloaded and reloaded the weapon in between pictures, again for reasons known only to himself. Then, he apparently forgot the gun was loaded as he took a final selfie of himself blowing off his own face.

The accident occurred at the man's girlfriend's home and Skagit County police say they are currently investigating the death as an accident. The woman was reportedly too distraught to tell authorities why the couple spent the day posing for pictures with a sometimes loaded handgun.

On the plus side, he did earn a Darwin Award!
