Squaring numbers with just 1s is so easy it requires only one example to master it! The technique presented here is specifically for squaring numbers containing 1s such as 11, 111, 1111, 1111, and so forth regardless of the size of the number as long as the number satisfies the conditions of the technique.

Squaring 111 means to multiply 111 by 111. To get an idea of how squaring a number is written, let SQRT() denote squaring.

Therefore, one way to write the squaring of 111 can be represented as the following expression. The most common way is to write a number with a superscript of 2 above the number (cannot be written here but usually written as 111^ 2 in this kind of environment where superscripts or subscripts are not allowed).

SQRT(111) or 111 X 111

The best thing about this technique is that there aren’t really any computations to perform in order to solve for the answer.

Here are the general steps in getting the answer.

01 – Count the numbers of 1s in the number and write the total of the number of 1s.
02 – Write numbers in descending order by 1 down to 1 on both sides of the total

For example, squaring 111, the following are performed.

SQRT(111), or 111 X 111, or 111^2

01 – There are three 1s in the number 111, so write a 3.
02 - 12 3 21 → 12321

So the answer is 12321. Simple and straight forward.
