Researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital have discovered a more effective method of discovering local and national flu activity. They did this by combining the flu’s historical patterns and health records, and by using machine-learning algorithm. Their method was able predict when the flu would reach it’s peak and it’s magnitude. Dr. John Brownstein, the chief innovation officer at Boston Children’s Hospital, “Our study shows the true value of considering multiple data streams in disease surveillance.”
