Steven Woolfe, the favourite to become the next leader of UKIP, is in a ‘serious condition’ in hospital after collapsing outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

Reports suggest Woolfe was punched by a colleague during a ‘clear the air meeting.’

It is claimed Woolfe appeared fine after the altercation but collapsed later complaining of losing “the feeling down one side of his body,” according to one witness.

UKIP, the party that claimed victory in the recent Brexit vote, has been in turmoil since former leader Nigel Farage stood down and Diane James quit after 18 days in the post.

Responding to questions from reporters, a UKIP spokesperson described Mr Woolfe as “conscious and recovering” in hospital.
