Whole world knows that first airplane was fly by Wright brothers, but the world doesn't know that 8 years before Wright brothers , one Indian scholar fly unmanned plane in the sky.
Shivkar Bāpuji Talpade was an Indian scholar who constructed and flown an unmanned airplane in 1895. Talpade was born in the Chira Bazaar locality of Mumbai in 1864. He came to know about ancient Indian aeronautics through his teacher.
Talpade created unmanned airplane in which he used Mercury Ion as fuel. Talpade's airplane was named as Marutsakhā, which mean 'Friend of wind'.
In 1895, Talpade demonstrated his airplane on Mumbai beach in front of crowd of hundreds. Famous people like Mahadeva Govinda Ranade and King Sayaji Rao Gaekwad II were present in this incredible event. This airplane sustained flight for few minutes. It fly to the height of approximately 1500 feet and then fall down to earth".
British Government did everything to suppressed Talpade's experiment. British government arrested him by claiming that he is making explosives from mercury. Talpade spent many years in jail. Talpade died in 1916.
The world was not ready to accept that airplane can fly by using mercury Ion engine. Finally , in 21st century NASA has successfully demonstrated Mercury Ion as a fuel and doing more research to use it in spaceships.
