AUBURN, CALIFORNIA — The body believed to be that of a teenager missing for 18 days after jumping into a raging river has been recovered.

Raymond Cabalfin, 19, was last seen alive on May 11, when he and his friends were hiking by Lake Clementine Trail near Sacramento. Thinking it would be funny to go for a dip in the cold, rushing water, Cabalfin and a friend were egged on to jump in.

Video taken by one of the friends captures the light-hearted moment the two jumped. While the girl who dove in was able to swim back to shore, Cabalfin can be seen struggling to fight against the current, and getting pulled downstream.

No trace of Cabalfin had been found, until two hikers spotted a body floating in the water on May 29, roughly three miles downstream of where Ray entered the river. The ice cold water likely shocked his system, and along with the raging currents, he must have been overwhelmed. The body found was so decomposed by the time it was found, confirming his identification could not be done immediately.

Ray’s friends and family are currently planning his funeral.
