A camera operated by the Nevada Seismological Laboratory and positioned on Santa Ynez Peak in Santa Barbara County, California, was hit directly by a wildfire over the weekend of July 8 and 9.This timelapse video shot by the camera shows the Whittier Fire getting closer and closer. A helicopter is seen dropping water on the blaze as it spreads across the mountainside and then reaches the raised camera equipment and scorches the earth around it.The Whittier Fire was first reported on Saturday, July 8. As of Sunday morning, officials were saying the fire had burned 7,800 acres and was five percent contained. Authorities ordered residents in several areas to evacuate.
