Massive Eastern Brown Snakes fighting at my back door

Gardening at my back door, I hear a rustle in nearby bushes. The grass is parting in that intriguing way, so I grab my camera. For a minute it seems I’m looking at a two-headed snake. Then out it comes, into the open...... At the beginning of Spring, I assume this is two snakes mating. But research reveals it’s two males dueling. These are Eastern Browns, the world’s second most venomous land snake, engaged in “ritual combat” - fighting for terrain and the right to mate the surrounding female/s. This species causes more deaths from snake bite than any other species in Australia. [Note how the copper-headed snake's mouth is often slightly ajar.] I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch these two battle it out for an hour. But a fortnight later, the previous victor is being challenged to a duel by another male - right under my washing line! (1:51 onwards) Forcing the other snake’s head down is how they prove their strength. Eventually one concedes defeat and slithers away.
