"The prolific Gui Amabis has worked to fuse the Brazilian post-bossa-nova songwriting tradition with electronic sampling and atmospherics. His crew includes the singer Céu, the composer and producer Beto Villares and the cooperative group Instituto, which includes Rica Amabis, his brother. Last year he made the album “Memórias Luso/Africanas,” on which he constructed moody backing tracks for singers including Céu. (The elegantly creepy sound world of Portishead seems to be a fixed part of his imagination.) This year he offers “Trabalhos Carnivoros” (“Carnivorous Works”), available free at http://www.guiamabis.com.br/
It’s about him, not others; it’s more of a singer-songwriter record, less a producer’s sandbox. Mr. Amabis sings in a quiet, relaxed and confiding voice, a bit like the young Caetano Veloso’s, on tracks rich in mood and harmony. They’re poetic songs with imaginative shifts, featuring close-miked vocals and spooky reverbed guitars. The album gives you a paradoxical representation of audio space, like intimate confessions in a concrete warehouse."

Gui worked on soundtracks for films and TV series: Collateral (2003), Cidade dos Homens (2003), Lord of War (2004), Perfect Stranger (2007), Filhos do Carnaval (2009), Quincas Berro D'água (2010), Bruna Surfistinha (2011), Giovanni Improtta (2013).

Gui Amabis lived and worked in Portugal for the album production and participation in concerts with singer-songwriter Rita Redshoes, 2013-2014.
