Huxlee is my band, and I am Caitlin Notey. The way I see it–you’re reading this to learn about me or the music or the band or something, and so I decided to forgo the whole third person thing, because that’s not giving you a very truthful insight to what’s happening.
I am 22 years old and based in east Los Angeles where I spend my time writing music, doing session vocal gigs for commercials/demos, producing vocals (recording/editing/tuning), prepping mix files, writing & recoding music for licensing, cleaning my apartment, google imaging “french bulldog”, and working my way through J.R.R Tolkien’s complete works.
The thing about Huxlee’s sound is that it’s constantly evolving, every day. It’s hard to pinpoint a genre– while rooted in folk songwriting, the arrangements turn out be something more complex and unfamiliar. It ends up a combination of folk, electronic, and garage rock, lead by a powerful vocal and accompanied by a fresh combination of simple and chromatic harmony. I am moved very deeply by many different types of music, so what I am inspired to create comes from a wide variety of informants. Think if Bon Iver, Radiohead and Fiona Apple had a little sister who had a discreet yet powerful love for N*SYNC. That’s Huxlee.
We released our debut 7-track EP Bloom in November 2013, and play regularly around Los Angeles at venues like Hotel Café, El Cid, Harvard & Stone, and The Mint. By myself I played an acoustic set at a TEDx Women’s Conference in April 2014, which was seriously incredible.
Anyways the point is, the band is on the up and up. We’re going to be recording again in August, and continue to play shows. Hope you enjoy the music it is available on Itunes, Amazon and Bandcamp. Party on.
