Former Indian cricket captain, manager and chairman of selectors Ajit Wadekar passed away in Mumbai on August 15, 2018, aged 77, after a prolonged illness. Wadekar will be remembered for starting a renaissance in Indian cricket, which led to maiden Test series victories in West Indies and England, under his watch as captain. A left-handed top order batsman, Wadekar scored 2113 runs in 37 Test matches for India. He also served as India's head coach in the 1990s and was conferred the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the BCCI in 2011.
