Parade-Quadrille, Op. 45 - Josef Strauss

  • hace 6 años
"Parade". On 13th August 1857, notices in the Viennese press invited the public to a "great military celebration" on 18th of August in the Volksgarten on the occasion of the Emperor's birthday. It was for this imperial celebration, which aptly suited the young Emperor's predilection for military manoeuvres, that Josef Strauss wrote his Parade-Quadrille. Unfortunately, foul weather prevented the celebration from taking place as scheduled; it had to be held later, on 25th August 1857. It was during this event that this quadrille was first performed. But the composition was, in any event, intended for the Emperor's birthday celebration in the Volksgarten. Josef Strauss must thus have had reason to be satisfied with the success of his quadrille.
