Learn how to make Dal Tadka at home with Chef Tarika Singh on Get Curried.

Dal is one of the most cooked food in every Indian household. Though it has different variation, still all are rich in flavors. Try Chef Tarika's version of this simple recipe and share your feedback in the comments below.

Ingredients:
3 cups Water
1 cup Split Pigeon pea, soaked
¼ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tbsp Ghee
2 Cinnamon sticks
4-5 Cloves
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
1/4 tsp Asafoetida
1 Onion, finely chopped
Green Chillies, finely chopped
Ginger, grated
1 Tomato, finely chopped
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Coriander powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1/2 tsp Red Chili powder
Coriander leaves, finely chopped
1 tbsp Ghee
3 Kashmiri Red Chillies
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
1/4 tsp Red Chilli powder
Asafoetida

Method of preparation:
In a pressure cooker add water, split pigeon pea, salt, turmeric powder, give it a stir, close the lid and cook it on high flame for 3 whistles or 15-20 minutes.
Heat ghee in a vessel, add cinnamon, cloves, cumin seeds, asafoetida, onion, green chillies, ginger, tomato, give it a stir and add salt, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder and give it a mix.
Add the tadka, coriander leaves and salt to the cooked dal and mix well.
Heat ghee in a vessel, add kashmiri red chillies, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, asafoetida and our tadka is ready.
Pour the second tadka on the dal before you serve it.

Our Dal tadka is ready to serve.
