South Korean director Bong Joon ho received an eight minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night for his latest film "Parasite."
"I don't like to follow the convention or codes for genre films, I try to convey messages about society through these broken codes."
The audience at the 23 hundred seat Grand Theatre Lumiere burst into applause after the 2 hour long film.
"Parasite" portrays a poor family getting involved with a wealthy family residing in a gaudy mansion.
This is Bong's fifth time at Cannes and his second attempt to win the Palme d'Or in the main competition section, following "Okja" in 2017.
