Cristiano was named after former US president Ronald Reagan, who was severely admired by Ronaldo's father. His full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. He grew up poor and had limited facilities at his disposal, he also shared the bedroom with his siblings. Ronaldo had two nick-names growing up: "cry-baby" and "little bee". They called him cry-baby because he used to cry when he passed and his friends did not. And 'little bee' because nobody could catch him. Ronaldo was expelled at the age of 14 after he hit his teacher with a chair. Ronaldo said the reason he did it was because the teacher made fun of his Madeiran accent and disrespected him. Who knew, it would turn out to be a wonderful stroke of luck as he would focus solely on local football Nacional, and, after a title-winning campaign, he went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP. At the age of 17, he played his first professional match with Sporting Lisbon and later Manchester United paid £12 million to sign him in 2003-a record fee. He has won FIFA World Player of the year award, 5 Ballon d'OR, the Golden Boot, and been named 4 times UEFA Best Player in Europe, among other honours. Ronaldo leads a healthy lifestyle and has no tattoos because he donates his blood regularly.
