When Alex Fischetti thinks back to when he was 9, he realizes how he was different from other kids. “Some people can say that you are odd,” he remembers. “Some people can say that you are a little out there.” Diagnosed back then with Asperger’s Syndrome, a condition that made it hard for him look people in the eye and interact normally, Alex missed many parties and other social events and often felt isolated. But if you look at him today, you see a completely different person.

Now 27, Alex has learned to deal with his condition with the help of some very special people along the way. He now works a regular job, has written a personal memoir of his experiences, and has now become the self-described “social butterfly” of Ridgefield, Connecticut.

A key player in this journey was Reeny Centrod, his “blonde haired angel”, who opened his eyes and his heart to the goodness of other people during a time when he was feeling lonely and isolated after his family relocated to Florida. This experience inspired him to write a children’s book called “The Lonesome Boy and The Blonde Haired Angel” about a boy who learns to fully enjoy life and connect to others thanks to the guidance of his “angel.”

Illustrator Cleveland (Cleo) Miller helped bring the story to life with her whimsical and soothing watercolor images that makes the book feel like a work of art. “My immediate reaction to Alex’s story was that one person can change another’s life for the better,” she noted. “It also was a story of a journey of renewal and hope and that he is living out the life he was meant to have.”

You are cordially invited to Alex’s Book Launch Party! Watch the festivities unfold at the historic Ridgefield Playhouse, the place where Alex works as Head Usher, dutifully attending to the many visitors for plays and shows. Tonight, however, it is Alex’s show. He is the center of all of the attention, and that is now a place where he is perfectly comfortable to be.
