Nobel Laureate and internationally renowned peace maker John Hume is today being laid to rest following Requiem Mass at St Eugene's Cathedral in Derry.
Mr Hume's widow Pat and children and wider family were joined at the funeral service by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, An Taoiseach Micheal Martin, NI First Minister Arlene Foster, Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill, SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood and Phil Coulter, while messages of condolences were sent by Pope Francis, President Bill Clinton and U2's Bono among other global figures.
Under normal circumstances, tens of thousands would have turned out to mark the occasion, but due to the pandemic and restrictions on gatherings, numbers were limited.
