Cenderawasih Bird

Two species of Cenderawasih (bird of paradise) are indigenous to Raja Ampat, West Papua, according to the Fauna and Flora International Indonesia Program (FFI-IP).
According to Maurits Kafiar, FFI-IP coordinator of biodiversity and community development, the red Cenderawasih (Paradisaea rubra) and bald Cenderawasih (Respublica diphyllodes) are the two species.
The two species can only be found on Raja Ampat's Waigeo Island and Batanta Island.
Cenderawasih are found in Raja Ampat in eight different species, six of which are also found in other parts of Papua.
The Cendrawasih population on Waigeo Island grows every year, from 24 birds sighted in 2015 to 47 birds spotted in 2017.
The increase is largely due to a greater awareness among the public and a heightened commitment to preserving and conserving these rare birds.
