स्वाधीन भारत का सफ़र in Hindi language is part of the Reimagining India Public Video Lecture Series.
Professor Apoorvanand is a Teacher and Writer
Prof. Apoorvanand discusses the ideal interpretation of Mahatma’s slogans - “Swaraj” and “Vaishnav-Jan,”- representing a concept of inclusiveness, honesty, equality, and freedom to dissent. He lists examples of developed countries where non-Christians have held the highest posts despite being a Christian majoritarian, reflecting inclusivity and equality of opportunities. Prof. Jha moreover discusses the multicultural influences of people from different walks of life (e.g., Savitrabai Phule, Gandhi, Tagore) on our Constitution. He touches upon the lack of empathy and intolerance to dissent recently displayed in a mob lynching in Assam and advocates addressing the bigotry that has engulfed India while standing up against the ideals of religious supremacy. He re-imagines India as a nation that is truly inclusive and equal in all spheres of life.
‘Reimagining India’ hopes to start a conversation to explore the contours of a society that is more just, equal and aligned to the Constitutional values of liberty and fraternity. Over the next two months, beginning from Oct 2, 2021 , 50 lectures on relevant themes by leading public intellectuals and political leaders will provide an alternate vision for the country.
