The lead track from the Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett album and clearly the best song. I think one of the big problems for why it failed to chart as single has a lot to do with the album and single being released in January 1978. I always found most years that the more memorable hits got their start in the spring or summer, whereas winter releases often did not fare as well. There were exceptions of course, but most of the time that was the case.
This is my third video of music from Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett. It was the band's second album and put together by half-brothers Stony Browder Jr. and Thomas Browder (also known as August Darnell). Later August Darnell and the band's percussionist, Andy Hernandez (also known as Coati Mundi), would form the even more famous group, Kid Creole and the Coconuts. The lead vocal in this song is by Cory Daye as are most for this band. She had a successful solo album in 1979, Cory and Me, and also went on to sing with Kid Creole and the Coconuts, then once again has pursued a solo career and joint projects with Coati Mundi.
I spent a lot of time getting Marilyn Monroe to synchronize her singing and dancing to this dance classic. For the most part it worked out quite well, I think. Scenes are from Ladies of the Chorus (1949) featuring Marilyn Monroe in the first major role of her career.
